Language learning levels
Language learning levels:
The language learning levels at La Tarara language school are organised in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Learners who have completed the respective course will be able to use Spanish in the following ways:
Level A1 (beginner – basic language user)
The language learner can introduce themselves and others, provide basic information about their place of residence, town, habits, likes and intentions, and can speak briefly about the people they know. Can interact with others as long as the other person speaks slowly and clearly in simple sentences.
Attaining this level requires 90 academic hours of study.
Level A2 (elementary – basic language user):
The language learner can communicate at a basic level and speak about their family, points of interest, likes, hobbies, work and school. The student can also talk about their past experiences, tell short stories and discuss their plans for the future, their needs and their immediate environment.
Attaining this level requires 120 academic hours of study.
Level B1 (intermediate – independent language user)
The language learner can use Spanish to deal with ordinary situations in a familiar environment. The language learner can understand the main points of simple texts on the topics of work, school and leisure. They can write simple texts on familiar topics and topics of personal interest. The learner can describe experiences, events and desires, explain personal views and make plans.
Attaining this level requires 150 academic hours of study.
Level B2 (upper intermediate – independent language user)
The language learner can use Spanish to interact with native speakers in a natural and fluent manner, without too much strain on either party. The learner can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics. Can converse in a clear and detailed manner on a wide range of subjects, explain personal views, and give the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
Attaining this level requires 180 academic hours of study.
Level C1 (advanced – proficient language user)
The learner can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without obvious difficulty in choosing the right expressions. Can understand a wide range of demanding texts and recognise figures of speech and implicit meanings. Can produce clear, well-structured and detailed texts on complex subjects. Can use language appropriately in everyday, academic and professional situations.
Attaining this level requires 180 academic hours of study.

The language levels of our courses are divided into a number of sub-levels, each with a duration of 30 academic hours:
A1.1, A1.2, A1.3.
A2.1, A2.2, A2.3, A2.4
B1.1, B1.2, B1.3, B1.4, B1.5
B2.1, B2.2, B2.3, B2.4, B2.5, B2.6
C1 – depending on the prior experience of the learner, i.e. the course will be adapted to the specific needs of the learners.
